The best way to use these tools is to first try every thing that you can on the copier. Using all your testing skills and such and then after that pull out the tool.
Why to use these tools?
In some cases, these tools communicate better with the copier than keyboard entries... they may have quirks but they can give you an insight into the copier that you may not be able to get otherwise...
Always trust your tools... but use them sparingly... most copy problems are simple.... but with inexperience the problem becomes difficult to solve...

( 2.8 / 98 )ok here is the deal...
(this is a vista thing so your mileage in xp will vary)
first goto cameras and scanners in your control panel and delete any profiles for the copier if you have been unsuccessful doing this...
then goto device manager and delete any entries for your copier... it will either be under wia and/or wsd scan...
then goto network neighborhood... (you should see all the pcs on the network and you should see the copier)
Now right click on the copier and install...
it takes a minute but it will be installed...
then goto scanners and cameras and verify all is well...
now goto your task alfa press scan... press wsd scan.... don't press from pc but the option to the left from console I think it says... it should be populated with all manner of wsd scan options...
select the very first entry and click scan
go back to your pc and accept ( or select the program to accept... and accept some more and then it should go through)
if this does not work or you get error... ( you will either one have to go to scanners and cameras and select the copier select its properties and find the option to prompt for selection... )
if none of this works... on vista... then you have to check to see if you have multiple profiles listed for the task alfa on scanners and cameras... and delete them all... delete copier from device manager... wsd and wia... entries and reinstall

( 2.8 / 96 )| If you are in a situation where the copier is just way too far and their is no direct ethernet access then you have a couple of options... |
If you need just a simple solution and all your wiring
is connected then try a wall plugged ethernet extender.
It functions effectively as an ethernet cable. You
plug your router into one end then plug that into the wall.
You then plug your copier in the other end and plug it into
the wall and you are good... if you have two eithernet ports on your
copier then you add a switch
in between. If you have a usb copier then you add a printserver
in between. One caution they don't like surge protectors and they do
get hot. To compensate for the heat you could try prying off
the back cover and with a drill drill some holes in the cover... as for
the surge protector... cann't help you there... ![]() |
If you are truly confident in your I.T. skills then you
could try bridging your network with either two ethernet bridges
or one ethernet bridge
if you have a wireless
router. There are many solutions for this but I
prefer trendnet's
solution.![]() |
| If, however, you feel that all this is quite beyond you then... go get a crimping tool, some rj 45 end connectors, a spool of cat 5e cable, possibly some faceplates, ethernet wall jacks and goto town. It might be hard work but sometimes cabling is best. |

( 2.9 / 81 )I can only speak from installing the task alfa color but assembling them is pretty simple.
1. step one get the base out of the box... if its got trays remove tray locks
2. step two get the main frame out of the box.. remove tray locks from trays
3. step three slap the mainframe on the base..
4. step four if you have the proper screws then take out the bottom tray and screw down the base to the frame. There is also a screw for the back along with a bracket to screw down the base via the back
5. step five install the document feeder and make sure to unscrew the the scanner lamp safety lock.
6. step six install toner and update firmware...
7. step seven run some copies... look at copy quality... if it doesn't look right run color alignment...
8. you are done...
Issues: some functions don't work right if firmware is not updated...
make sure every tray and every drawer locks properly... overuse can break stuff... don't start up machine without toner... you will get error codes...
