If you ever go to a customers site and you see something like this then more than likely someone tried to do 1 of 3 things...
1)they installed vnc and the pc went into shock
2)they tried to setup a vpn and the system went into shock
3)or the system went into shock on its own because it became allergic to antivirus or firmware or registry issues on the pc...
As a tech here is your only recourse...
Tell the customer its not your job to repair their system...
then if they twist your hand...
uninstall the antivirus and the firewall...
9 times out of ten that will fix it...
and allow for scanning to work again...
from that point on... its time for a network technician to step in...
you are in beyond your depth... and its ok to run away...
it might be your job that you are saving...

( 2.8 / 57 )What I am going to show you is how to set up scan to smb for mac os x 10.5 (leapard). This may differ slightly for other versions but the basic underpinning ideas will hold true...
1. select apple in your upper left corner
2. select system preferences
3. under system preferences select sharing from internet and network
4. in the list of services check file sharing and select options
5. select share files and folders using smb
6. select user name that you want enabled
7. enter the password associated with that name
8. select done. this will make the home directory of the user visible and shared
9. now browse the hard drive and select the users folder.
10. open the directory of the user that you made visible. this will be the directory that you will scan to
11. inside that folder create a new folder by selecting file and selecting new folder. Give the folder a name you will remember.
12. write down the name of the users home directory, the folder path and the ip address of the workstation. You can find the ip address under about this mac or under the network in the preferences section.
lets say the name of your user is johndoe and your password is pass and the name of your scan folder is scans and your workstation ip address is 192.178.15.15
then you would enter the following info in the copier
hostname: 192.178.15.15
path: johndoe\scans
username: johndoe
password: pass
and that should be it...

( 2.9 / 41 )Many times as a tech you will see a brand of copier that you have never worked on before and you will know it inside out. This is because you worked on a model that was licensed from that brand to your copier brand. I have seen this numberous times with kycera models that have the same functionality and feel of konica models...
When this starts happening to you, you will be able to fix most copiers out there. The only thing that you will really need is the service manual and the operations guide. With those two you will get a feel for anything the model you are working on can do. As far as networking is concerned, most copiers network the same way... Nothing is very complicated any more...
If at a loss for manuals, there are many sites online that sell cd manual compilations... this can come in very handy for diligent technician

( 3 / 30 )As I said before, wia is very similar to usb twain scanning.... its very straight forward...
install the wia driver
go to control panel then to scanners and cameras and create a profile
connect your usb scanner and you are ready to go
well there are certain caveats...
if you have vista... your mileage will vary... it will either work or it just won't
xp is pretty stable...
one thing to note... if you start installing and uninstalling it a bunch of times you will confuse the pc...
to get rid of these other instances... you have to go into the device manager and delete all of them...
I couldn't figure out which was the working instance and neither will you...
but if you have xp... you really shouldn't go through all of that...
if this didn't make one lick of sense... send me a comment and I'll clean it up...
